The Paris Fashion Week is a highly-celebrated event and loved by the media! Although it isn't broadcast on public TV, all news programs broadcast a small clip of this week-long show. In France, more specifically in Paris, people are very proud of this high fashion event.
これらの伝統的なファッションショーの歴史は長く、1800年代の中頃、一人のイギリス人の仕立て屋によってパリで立ち上げられたのが、これらのファッションショーの始まりでした。以来、今日私たちがパリ・コレクションとして知るイベントの第一回目が、1900年代の中頃、ニューヨークで開催されました。
The tradition of these fashion shows goes back a long way. In Paris, the ancestor of these fashion shows was actually established in the mid-1800s by an English tailor, although the first ever fashion show as we know them today was held in New York in the mid-1900s!
パリ・コレクションは、ファッション業界ではニューヨーク・ロンドン・ミラノと共にビッグ４の内の一つとしても知られ、ニューヨーク・コレクションを皮切りに、ロンドン、ミラノと巡回しパリでフィナーレを彩るグランドツアーとしても知られています。パリの舞台がその名声をとどろかせたのは、オートクチュールの働きでした。それ以来、パリ・コレクションで行われるショーでは唯一、客席へと長く突き出したキャットウォークの舞台が取り入れられています。
The Paris Fashion Week is the last stop on a grand tour of shows known as the Big Four in the fashion industry; first there is the New York Fashion Week, then London, followed by Milan, and finally Paris. The Paris scene gained its fame thanks to the haute couture. Since then, the Paris Fashion Week shows are the only shows hosting haute couture catwalks.
1973年には、始めて公認されたパリ・コレクションのショーが、ベルサイユ宮殿にて開催されました。それは、アン・クラインやスティーブン・バローズ、ユベール・ド・ジバンシー、イヴ・サン=ローランの様な、海をまたいだファッション業界で、今ではよく耳にするようなった高級婦人服デザイナーたちを呼び物にしたショーだったのです。このパリで開催された初めての公式ファッションショーは、"ベルサイユのバトル"と皮肉られる結果となっていました。
The first recognized Paris Fashion Week was held in 1973 in Versailles Palace. It featured couturiers (high-class designers) now considered household names in the fashion industry from both sides of the ocean, such as Anne Klein, Stephen Burrows, Hubert de Givenchy, and Yves Saint-Laurent. This first Paris Fashion Week was ironically nicknamed "the Battle of Versailles."
