"Holiday"と"day off"、どちらも職場や学校に行かなくてもいい休みの日のことなのですが、少し違う使われ方をします。
"Holiday" and "day off" both refer to days you don't have to go to work or school, but they are used a little differently.
"Day off"は、職場や学校に行かなくてもいいお休みの日の一般的な言い回し表現で、定期的なお休みの事を指しています。
"Day off" is a general term for any day you don't work. This can refer to days you regularly don't work:
火曜日から土曜日が私の勤務日で、日曜日と月曜日がお休みです。
I work Tuesday to Saturday, and my days off are Sunday and Monday
"Day off"はまた、通常は勤務日だけれどもお仕事をお休みするという日にも使われます。
"Day off" can also refer to regular work days that you don't work.
"Have a day off"は、上司が休みをくれた時を、"take a day off"は、自ら希望を出して取った時を意味します。
"Have a day off" means your boss gave you a day off, and "take a day off" means you requested to not work:

"Holiday," あるいは "public holiday," は、何かをお祝いする特別な日の事です。

In the UK, "holiday" also means "vacation," which is a trip you take for pleasure:
